Formative Assessment Links of the Week:

Information for This Week

Internal Reassignments
 - As we discussed at the brief staffing meeting on Friday, we are planning on posting 4 positions for Round 2: Kindergarten, Grade 3, Grade 7 and LST (1.0).  If you are interested in internally transferring to any of these positions, please let Carrie or Tia know by Tuesday.

New Principal - As discussed at our meeting on Friday, David Starr will not be coming to Bear Creek in September. He has accepted a secondary principalship in Burnaby.

Our new principal for the next school year and beyond will be Elsie Bertholm.  She is currently the principal at George Greenaway where she began in January, 2011. There is a high number of special needs students at George Greenaway. Prior to this, she was the vice-principal at Georges Vanier which is quite similar to Bear Creek. We know she will be an excellent fit for us!

A Message from Tia - I would like to also say how grateful I am that I will be able to continue my journey with all of you at Bear Creek.  I have thoroughly enjoyed being the vice-principal of Bear Creek for the past almost 3 years, and look forward to what lies ahead. You are amazing educators with the heart for kids and I have certainly learned a great deal during our time together. Thank you!

RAD Assessments - Gr. 2/3 assessments will be done this week (Wednesday and Thursday) with the support of the LST team. A schedule was put in everyone's boxes by LST. If you have any questions, please see your LST teacher.

Weekly Memo - May 5-9

First of all, we hope you all had a wonderful, interesting, and inspiring day on our Professional Development Day on Friday. We had Dr. John Medina talk with us on Friday for close to 5 hours about the brain and implications brain research has in our schools and with our learners. We both found him to be interesting, engaging, funny, and full of wonderful insight.  Here are some quotes about John Medina's presentation from some of the participants at the convention:

He has written a couple of books which you can learn about on his website: Brain Rules.
